China and the World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments

From July 29 to 31, 2025, the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments was held, bringing together 120 members of parliaments from around the world.
It was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations. The theme of this year's event was: "A World in Crisis: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice and Prosperity for All."
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Zhao Leji, represented China at this event, highlighting his country's openness to promoting the construction of a community of shared future for mankind, through its willingness to work with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other parliaments of the world on this issue.
In addition to the above, Zhao stressed that, in the face of the profound global challenges for peace and development, it is important for parliaments to assume a more active role in the construction of international relations.
Finally, in his speech, Zhao pointed out that China is willing to push forward initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the legislative bodies of all countries.
This meeting concluded with the adoption of the High-Level Declaration of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, among the important issues are: strengthening multilateralism, collaborating with the United Nations, supporting the Parliamentary Alliance for Climate Action and Just Transition Initiative, among other issues.
