China's first registration of an international standard for manned spaceflight

October 16, 2025

China registered its first international standard on human spaceflight with the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), an independent non-governmental organization that develops and publishes international standards on quality, safety, efficiency, and interoperability of products, services, and systems in most sectors of industry and technology.

This means that, with this new international standard registered, China goes from being just a technological participant to being an international rule-maker in the space field.

In this regard, through the ISO/NP 14620-5 standard, China shares its space experience in manned spacecraft safety issues.

Among his space experience are manned missions such as Shenzhou and the Tiangong station.

Thus, in the area of international space cooperation, dialogue on space security and development is opened.

In this way, China plans a new technical framework on the matter, establishing standards that could be shared, facilitating access to a proven model, and contributing to the safety of astronauts on international missions.

Thus, it is important for China to establish the legal framework of global space governance that governs space exploration and development.
